Thames British School has launched a scholarship programme for Upper Secondary (IGCSE) and IB Diploma Programmes at our Włochy Campus. We aim to support academically gifted students who are truly curious, self-motivated, and engaged. Candidates may apply for either an academic scholarship or an outstanding merit scholarship.

Thames Academic Scholarship for
Year 10 candidates
Candidates enrolling in Year 10 (IGCSE 1) can apply for the Academic Scholarship provided that they pass entrance examinations as required by the school.

Entrance requirements:
● obtain a minimum score of 80% in Mathematics,
● demonstrate their English proficiency at the C1 level (CEFR).

Overall there will be 5 scholarships granted per year: one 100%, two 75%, and two 50% discounts on the yearly school fees. Thames British School Primary School alumni can also apply for the scholarship.

The scholarships will be granted for two academic years. Students winning these scholarships must maintain high academic results at the end of the first scholarship year (Year 10) at TBS. The students' results will be reviewed by a committee in order to verify continues eligibility for the scholarship in the following academic year.

A candidate who is awarded one of the 5 scholarships in Year 10, must meet the following requirements at the end of the academic year in order to maintain the scholarship in Year 11:
● obtain a grades average minimum of 5,00;
● obtain a minimum 'very good' behaviour mark;
● maintain attendance rate at a minimum level of 90%;
● by 30 June at the latest, certified results from the previous year must be presented to the school principal

IBDP 1 candidates
Overall there will be 5 scholarships granted per academic year: one 100%, two 75%, and two 50% discounts on the school fee.
Candidates enrolling in Year 12 (IB DP1) can apply for the Academic Scholarship provided that they pass entrance examinations as required by the school

Students who attend Year 11 at Thames British School in the 2020/2021 academic year can also apply for the scholarship.

The scholarships will be granted for two academic years. Students winning these scholarships must maintain high academic results at the end of the first scholarship year (Year 12) at TBS. The students' results will be reviewed by a commission in order to verify their eligibility for the scholarship in the following academic year.

A candidate who is awarded one of the 5 scholarships in Year 12, must meet the following requirements at the end of the academic year in order to maintain the scholarship in Year 13:
● obtain a minimum mark of a '5' in all subjects on an HL level, and a minimum mark of a '6' in all subjects on an SL level;
● obtain a minimum 'very good' behaviour mark;
● maintain attendance rate at a minimum level of 90%
● until 30 June at the latest, present these results to the school principal on a special form signed by the class teacher.
Application Process for Academic Scholarship
STEP 1: ENTRANCE EXAMS
In order to apply for the Academic Scholarship, a candidate is required to pass entrance examinations as required by the school, in which they must:

● obtain a minimum score of 80% in Mathematics,
● demonstrate their English proficiency at the C1 level (CEFR).

STEP 2: APPLICATION
Candidates' Parents apply for the scholarship by filling out the online form on the Thames British School website.

The deadline for submitting the application is 10th May, 2021.

STEP 3: SCHOLARSHIP ADMISSION TEST
On 15th May, 2021 candidates take a Scholarship Admission Test that will assess their general knowledge, their ability to formulate opinions, as well as their logical and analytical thinking skills.
STEP 4: INTERVIEW
Up to 10 candidates who obtained the highest results for Year 10 and Year 12will be shortlisted and invited to attend an interview on 29th May 2021. The interview will take approximately 10-15 minutes per candidate and will consist of two parts:

  1. a candidate's presentation;
  2. a conversation with the Scholarship Committee.
STEP 5: DECISION
The school informs the candidates' parents about the results of the scholarship application by August 5th.

Outstanding Merit Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to candidates applying for Years 10-12, based on their recruitment results and former achievements.
Every year on July 15th at latest, the Upper Secondary Principal submits to the School Board two laureates of the upcoming academic year scholarship, one a 100% discount and one 50% discount on the school fee. The Principal chooses the scholarship winners from all applicants. The principal may offer the scholarship to candidates who did not apply but could be a great asset to the school. This award is subjective, however granted based one or more of the following attributes which must be confirmed by evidence (e.g. diplomas, certificates):

Entrance requirements:
● excellent academic achievements;
● achievements in charity engagement and activities of local or global relevance;
● outstanding sports or artistic achievements;
● tenacity in overcoming adversity.

A candidate who is awarded Outstanding Merit Scholarship must meet the following requirements at the end of the academic year in which the scholarship was granted in order to maintain the scholarship in the following academic year:
● obtain a minimum grades average of 5,00 (a requirement for Year 10 and Year 11 students); obtain a minimum mark of a '5' in all subjects on an HL level, and a minimum mark of a '6' in all subjects on an SL level (a requirement for IB DP students);
● obtain a minimum 'very good' behaviour mark;
● maintain attendance rate on a minimum level of 90%;
● submit evidence of achievement in a subject-related olympiad (or a competition), in community and/or charity engagement, in sports or in the arts;
● by 30 June at the latest, present these certified results and evidence of achievement(s) to the school principal on a form signed by the class teacher.
Application Process for Outstanding Merit Scholarship
STEP 1: ENTRANCE EXAMS
Candidates sit entrance examinations as required for the respective programmes of Cambridge IGCSE or IB Diploma Programme. Detailed information about entrance exams can be obtained by contacting the Admissions Officer on [email protected]

STEP 2: ONLINE APPLICATION
Candidates who have passed entrance exams can apply for Outstanding Merit Scholarship by filling out an online form through Thames British School website.

The deadline for sending the application is 15th June 2021.

STEP 3: SENDING IN DOCUMENTATION
Candidates send the following documentation to [email protected] as evidence of their outstanding merit and achievements:
  1. a motivational letter written by the candidate that explains why they are the best candidate for the scholarship;
  2. scans of certificates, diplomas, school transcripts, and recommendation letters which serve as evidence of their outstanding merit and achievement

The deadline for sending the documentation is 15th June 2021.

STEP 4: INTERVIEW
The school principal will select up to 10 candidates who will be invited to an interview which will be scheduled individually for each candidate no later than July 10, 2021.

The interview will take approximately 10-15 minutes per candidate and will consist of two parts:
  1. a candidate's presentation;
  2. a conversation with the school principal.
STEP 5: DECISION
The school informs the candidates' parents about the results of the scholarship application until August 5th.
